Throat Punch Thursday~Teen takes Parents to Court and her Baby Gets Stay of Execution

by Deborah Cruz

pregnancy, abortion, texas teenIt’s a crazy world when you have to take your parents to court to avoid having a forced abortion. Look, I get where a parent might feel that it is their job to save their child from themselves. We do. I do. But you know the saying, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and people, there is nothing you can do to force this cure on your child short of tying her down and violating her.  Plus, there are abortion alternatives that you can consider and discuss.

A divorced couple in Texas are pissed that their 16-year-old daughter got knocked up. Hey, I get that too. My biggest deterrent to sex when I was a teen was not that my moral compass was wound so tight that I could do no wrong. I was afraid to do wrong. My dad had made it pretty clear early on that virginity was the only option. There would be no teen pregnancies in his house. He’d just assume throw me down a flight of stairs. Yeah, that was his pound of cure. But these lovely absentee parents, whose child is now 10-weeks pregnant and has been living with her grandparents for the past 7 months, decided that they would take her kicking and screaming to have an abortion. You can’t do that no more than you can take your child in for sterilization or to have a vasectomy or their tubes tied. It’s just not your decision to make.

Our job is to teach our kids what’s right and what’s wrong. We need to give them the morals to make the right decision, we need to be the examples and we need to communicate with them. We don’t need to throw them down flights of stairs, slip them abortion pills or force them to get abortions.Yes, because this girl’s mother invited the parents of the boy who got her daughter pregnant out to a bar to discuss slipping her daughter an abortion pill mickey. We need to prevent them from getting pregnant by teaching them about abstinence and safe sex. It’s our job to help them avoid mistakes not punish them for their mistakes after the fact.

The lawsuit alleged that the girl’s mother threatened to “slip (the teen) an abortion pill,” took her daughter’s phone and car and kept her home from school to punish her for choosing not to abort her fetus. The mother told the teen that she was “making the biggest mistake of her life” by choosing to have the child and that the mother herself had undergone numerous abortions, so her daughter should, too, the lawsuit said.

It added that the pregnant girl’s father told her he “was going to look into canceling” her health insurance. He texted his daughter that she “needs an ass whoopin’,” the document said.

The parents told their daughter she could “continue to live in misery” in their home or she could “have the abortion and tell everyone it was a miscarriage,” the lawsuit added.

I’m curious to know why she wasn’t living with her parents in the first place. Did they just need a break? Had they already given up on her? Are they pissed because Grandma said if the girl has the baby she has to move back in with one of her parents? The whole thing sounds fishy to me. One thing is clear, these parents suck.

No matter how badly they wish their daughter wasn’t pregnant, Roe v. Wade says she has the right to choose what to do with her pregnancy and her body. Trying to force her to abort at this point is too little parenting, too late. The restraining order will protect the teen from her parents trying to coerce or force her into an abortion.

This girl is going to have a hard road ahead of her becoming a mother at such a young age but it’s not anyone’s place to decide for her whether or not she end her pregnancy. Throat punch to her parents fro trying to do just that.

Do you think a parent should have a say in whether or not their teen has an abortion?

WOW! That’s insane. I can’t imagine having that much of an overreaction to one of my girls getting pregnant as teen. (Really hard for me to imagine them being teens since they are 8 and 6 right now.) I’m with you, why was she living with Grandma? Maybe because of the divorce? Were the boy’s parents in with this plan too? Or did they just pretend to go along with it? Crazy. Definitely wrong.

I think the boys parents are the ones who told the girl and boy that her mom wanted to slip her the abortion pill. I’m sure no one is happy with the outcome but what can you do but support them at that point. Right? And I am with you, my girls are 5 & 7, hard to imagine the teen years but I guess it will be here faster than we think:( We’ll get through it together.LOL

What do they care if she is pregnant anyway? It’s obvious that the teen was not living with them, they have no parental rights at that point. They made mistakes raising her and they NOW want to “fix” things? In in this manner? How about love and compassion?

Society is making me sick. I don’t know if I can read your Throat Punch Thursdays anymore. Oh, who am I kidding, they are too juicy! They make me feel so good to be normal.
