going green, nature, sponsored, tips, raising green children

Does your family practice green livingEvery parent wants better for their child than they had for themselves. I think that is the way parenthood is designed. Our legacy is that each generation wants better for the next generation. Only in order for us to leave the world a better place for our children, we need to make the planet a better, cleaner and greener version of what it’s become. Like I always say, be the change you want to see in the world and start by being that change for your children.

Here are 10 easy tips for green living

1.Set up a garden at home in the spring for growing organic vegetables.

Your kids can help plant, water, and care for the garden, watch the plants grow, and enjoy the results.

2. Recycle Water in Your Bathroom

Keep a bucket by the shower or the tub and fill it with the cold water that comes out before the hot water kicks in. Then use that water for your plants. Turn off faucets when not in use.

3. Compost
Use a compost bin to turn your food and lawn wastes into nutrient-rich mulch. It’s a great way to reduce your trash footprint.

4. Use High-Efficiency Lighting
Replace low-wattage halogen bulbs with LED versions. For landscaping, use solar powered lights. When you are not using lights inside them, turn them off.

5. Load Up the Washing Machines
Make sure you only run the dishwasher and the washing machine when they’re full. Washing machines are huge energy and water users.

6. Clean green.

Look in your kitchen cabinet for natural cleaning products like baking soda, white distilled vinegar and essential oils. Use reusable shopping bags whenever you go to the store.

7. Upcycle.

Swap clothes, books, magazines and DVDs with neighbors and friends instead of buying new. Check out books from the library rather than buying new ones. Videos can also be borrowed from the library, instead of buying new. Streaming them on your computer is also a great way to avoid waste.

8. Don’t buy bottled water.

You will use less plastic, create less garbage and save money. Buy reusable containers. Have your kids take a lunch using a planet box or reusable snack bags that can be washed and reused rather than thrown away.

9. Drive Smarter
Simple changes in our driving habits can improve fuel efficiency. Drive near the speed limit, keep your tires inflated, make sure oil and air filters are clean, and step on the gas and the brakes carefully. If you really want to be green, ride your bike or walk when possible.

10. Hang Clothes to Dry

My girls love to help me do the laundry and there is nothing quite as wonderful as clothes dried by the summer sun and wind. It’s also something the girls and I can do together.

By teaching your kids some ideas on living greener now they will grow up living greener and making this planet a better place for their children.

What are your best tips for teaching your family green living?

hair, beauty, Latina, Imágen, salon products, just for Latinas

Have you ever heard of Imágen salon hair products?

Neither had I until they approached me to try their products. We all know there is nothing quite as relaxing as going to the spa and letting the professionals wash, style and blow out our hair. Oh, how we Latina girls love a good blow out. Well, doesn’t everyone?

Imagine if everyone were the same. Life would be boring right? Isn’t variety the spice of life? I am the child of a biracial couple and I have the hair to prove it. I am Latina and we have hair that comes in almost as many varieties of colors, textures and thicknesses as the color of our skin but I have found a product that is made just for my hair, Imágen.

I happen to have a whole lot of fine hair in deep chestnut, sometimes its curly and sometimes its straight. My sister on the other hand has very thick, coarse, jet-black hair that hangs in spiral curls. My other sister has shorter, baby fine hair that is naturally wavy. She always looks like she just left the beach. The problem is that it’s not usually up to us how our hair is going to look on any given day, so we have to depend on good product; preferably one that works with our type of hair.

Believe me when I tell you that I have tried just about everything on the market. When I was a teenager, I would use whatever my mom bought. As I entered my 20’s and started putting real effort into my beauty routine, I began using Paul Mitchell. Then I had kids and I was lucky if I even got to shower.

As I get older, I’ve noticed that my hair has gotten duller, more brittle and as the gray comes in and stress causes me to lose hair, now, just for shits and giggles, my hair has decided to get curlier. Basically, what was working for me, is no longer working. Every day is a hair surprise and that is not necessarily a good thing.

I’ve tried using hair soaps like Lush’s Godiva but it made my head itchy. I tried Wen and it helped with the hair falling out but did nothing for the frizz and, I know it’s just mental, but I really miss the lather of conventional shampoos.

Enter Imágen a hair product line made specifically for Latinas.

I am very weird about my hair, I always have this fear that I’m going to use a new shampoo and all of my hair is instantly going to fall out and there I will be with no hair. Just in case you missed the memo, we Latinas have a lot of our self-image wrapped up in our hair. I’ve had long hair most of my life. So the very last thing I want to do is to jack my hair up.

I was skeptical but I tried the Imágen shampoo and conditioner and my hair felt soft without feeling greasy or heavy like most shampoos leave my hair feeling.  Then, I used the straightener because it’s a warm weather month and that translates into instant frizz for me. I dried my hair and added a little of the Imágen anti-frizz serum ( my new favorite thing) and I have to say, I am very impressed with the product. My hair is soft and straight, no fluff and I didn’t even have to use the straightening iron, so no extraneous heat damage.  Just in case you don’t have naturally curly or wavy hair, you should know that beating back frizz during humid weather is nothing short of a miracle.

I’ve only used the product a couple times so far but, honestly, I am really impressed.

hair, beauty, Latina, Imágen, salon products, just for Latinas

There are 6 products currently in the line; Imágen Salon Formula Moisturizing Shampoo – containing avocado oil and botanicals to naturally revive dry, damaged hair; Strengthening Conditioner – formulated to penetrate the hair shaft, instantly detangling and smoothing even problem hair; Leave-in Conditioner – a protein-enriched complex that restores moisture and softness; Temporary Straightener – a straightening and shining formula to temporarily remove curl and frizz without harsh chemicals; Shine – a weightless mist that adds brilliant shine; and Anti-Frizz Serum– a greaseless finishing balm to tame ‘frizzies’ and seal split ends. All products: MSRP$7.99 and are available at Target.

Currently, the Imágen Temporary Straightener and Imágen Anti-Frizz Serum are both on sale for a $1 off regular price. On June 22nd, all of the Imágen Salon Quality Hair Care products will be on sale for $1 off. So don’t take my word for it, give it a try and let me know what you think.

Ecōths , Fashion, Men's Fashion, Father's Day, Gifts for Men, Dad

I told you all that I am an Aventura Ambassador but did I tell you that they also have a men’s line called Ecōths? They do and the Big Guy loves it.

Ecōths is the harmonious blend of Eco and Ethos, two words that are the epicenter of the brand. The foundation of Ecōths is combining natural fabrics with style, comfort, and personality while accentuating and shaping one’s character and guiding beliefs and ideals towards community and creating a better place to live.

Ecōths , Fashion, Men's Fashion, Father's Day, Gifts for Men, Dad
Ecōths is 100% natural. Ecōths combines urban fashion elements with rugged outdoor influence to create one cohesive brand that unites style, community, and goodness. As part of their GOOD SAM program, Ecōths supports regional food banks around the country. For every Ecōths garment purchased in the United States, three meals will be provided to someone in need through their regional food bank. Ecōths mission is simple – bring together the triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Product.

So aside from the clothes that are high quality and eco-friendly, Ecōths gives back to the community. I don’t know about you but I love supporting a company whose mission is to provide me with a quality product while feeding the hungry. It’s definitely a win; win situation.

As you can see from the photos, the Big Guy received the McCall Shirt in Flint, the Talon Polo in Glacier Blue and the Humboldt shorts in Dune. He loves the way all 3 pieces fit. My husband is 6’5″ and broad shouldered and these pieces fit him perfectly without making him look like a box or the clothes being too baggy. I love the way the blues in the shirts make his eyes pop but he really loves the feel of the organic cotton, especially on these warm afternoons. Check out the catalog for the full selection of the Ecōths collection.

Just to make it fun, Ecōths is offering a McCall shirt for me to give away to one lucky reader. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment here telling me what your favorite piece from the Ecōths collection is for the special guy in your life. One winner will be chosen at random. Contest is open to U.S and Canadian residents and ends at midnight EST on Sunday June 8th.

Tacey Fedora, Juliette Sweater, Aventura Clothing, #AventuraLife, Fashion, Travel, Sponsored, Aventura, Eco-friendly clothing, green fashion

I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had the chance to share some very important news. No, exhale, I am NOT pregnant. We’re not having that announcement ever again. My uterus has gone on holiday. I will just live vicariously through all my friends and family who keep having their own sweet, baby smell bundles that keep making my ovaries twitch. My announcement is that I am a brand, spanking new addition to the Aventura Clothing ambassador family and I am thrilled.

Aventura Clothing is an awesome family owned brand that’s been around since 1965 with a focus on environmental sustainability and high quality fashion for the modern woman on the move.  Aventura Clothing is a socially conscious and each piece is carefully crafted to be comfortable with a focus on an active lifestyle using materials like organic cotton, bamboo blends and recycled polyester. The eco-friendly styles prevent synthetic fertilizers and farm chemicals from polluting the soil. Aventura Clothing is the perfect marriage between comfort and style plus you can feel good about wearing it because no earth was harmed in the making of your fashion.

I received my first order right before we went on spring break and you better believe I took all of it to Disney World with me. Everything I ordered was lightweight and in bright, summery colors so it was perfect for the Florida heat and professional enough to wear to a conference. Bonus, it all traveled easily and most without wrinkling. Aventura is a traveler’s perfect choice in fashion.

I chose three different outfits with a few simple, classic pieces that could be easily swapped in and out to create several different outfits. I will highlight them individually as the summer goes on but today, I would like to highlight three of my favorite pieces.

The Tacey Fedora

The paper straw fedora has a unique geometric pattern and stylish black hat band. It fits like a glove and looks adorable with just about anything you wear it with. Bonus: It hides my bad hair days easily and no one’s the wiser. This may be my new favorite piece for all seasons.

Taken on a beautiful day, May 31, 2014.

The Juliette Sweater in Silver Sconce

The Juliette is the perfect lightweight sweater for spring, summer or fall. With a name like Juliette, how can your mind not conjure up images of feminine perfection. It’s comfortable and stylish looking with just the right amount of sass. I love the feminine cut and drape. It hugs my Latina girl curves but hangs in a way that doesn’t look like it’s too small. I’m embarrassed to admit it but since it’s arrival, it’s been worn more times than it probably should have been. I just love it.

The Mayfield Dress

It’s perfect for every occasion that calls for classic elegance from an afternoon networking at a conference to an evening spent enjoying drinks over casual conversation with your favorite guy, this dress is ready for all your summertime soirees. The rayon from bamboo and modal blend drapes beautifully and is as soft as silk without all the fuss. The Mayfield dress traveled for 18 hours in my suitcase on the road trip from ndiana to Florida and didn’t wrinkle, at all. I just pulled it out of my suitcase, hung it up, paired with a pair of cute sandals, the Redford jacket in white and the Presley scarf in sea blue and out the door I went; business cards in hand, dressed to impress.

Taken March 28th, REALLY, REALLY early in the morning after a late night and 18 hours traveling in the car with my children:)

If you would like to try Aventura clothing for yourself, I have some discount codes to share with you. The codes are good for a one-time use up to $250 for 60% off retail pricing. That’s an awesome deal. Believe me I know because I am about to use one for myself to order the Waverly maxi dress which normally retails for $87 and with the discount code, I can get it for $34.80. Oh yes, it will be mine. I will give out 10 discount codes to the first 10 requests I receive.

If you had the 60% discount, what would you spend it on from Aventura Clothing?

Disclosure: I am a 2014 Aventura Clothing Ambassador and was provided product for review but all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Green Fashion, fashion, sponsored post

Green Fashion, fashion, sponsored post

Have you ever considered green fashion? We’re used to hearing about how we can contribute towards a greener world by cutting down on our energy usage in the home, taking the bike to work and choosing local produce where possible but there are other ways to make the world a better place and it just might start in your closet. New energy providers are taking on the larger utility companies to give us cheaper deals, and a variety of green energy plans allow us to choose whether we want our electricity sourced wholly or partially from renewable sources, while supermarkets are increasingly embracing organic products and workplaces continue to set up schemes to motivate employees out of their cars.

But what about when it comes to fashion? We women love our fashion. Believe me, when I was a vegetarian for those 10 years, I was sad by my lack of cute shoes available to me that were animal friendly. This is an arena in which we are less used to hearing the benefits of going green. Yet there are some very real concerns when it comes to sustainability and eco-credentials in the fashion world. From the pesticides used in growing the raw materials to the chemicals used in manufacturing our garments, fashion is not always as natural and ethically conscious as we might be led to believe.  There is a reason that they say you should wash all of the clothes you buy before wearing them. The chemicals that some clothing is treated with can cause very real skin reactions. Then there are the livelihoods of the individuals producing our clothes to consider and the wider communities and environments in which they live. We take a look at the top green fashion trends which are starting to change the status quo.

Green Fashion is Becoming Mainstream

Environmentally conscious fashion is no longer the preserve of niche designers and hippie outlets. As designers become more aware of the power of going green and build ecological principles into their brand image, eco-credentials are becoming the norm. From sourcing materials locally to committing to zero waste, a growing number of designers are taking steps to combine the worlds of high end fashion and sustainability.

Green Fashion brings with it a Transparent Supply Chain

It used to be that consumers had no idea where their clothes came from, other than the country, or in what conditions they were produced. But in recent years there have been a spate of protests surrounding foreign factories and working conditions, not to mention shocking findings about carbon dioxide emissions, water pollution and waste disposal. The result? A growing number of consumers are swapping cheap products bought with a blind eye to their environmental cost to ethically produced garments that come with a clear supply chain. It is now far easier for consumers to find information on all aspects of clothing manufacture and many are choosing to do their research first.

Designers are Innovating

Along with the quest for environmentally-friendly raw materials and manufacturing processes is a desire to innovate and excel in design. This applies as much today, if not more, as it ever has. Technological wizardry when it comes to fabric manufacture doesn’t have to come at the expense of green credentials, however. On the contrary, it often goes hand in hand – for example, in the quest for carbon-neutral thread or high-yield organic cotton production.

Green Fashion is Upcycling at it’s Finest

Upcycling has been a buzzword for some years now and it shows no signs of dissipating. Mainstream designers are latching on to our desire to re-use, repurpose and recycle with increasing awareness. Expect vintage gowns, shabby chic and pre-loved fabrics, but with less grunge and more edge. All this goes alongside a desire to rediscover traditional crafts and skills. Myself, I have always loved vintage clothing. Aside from the fact that it is better for the environment to reuse materials, there is something really cool about wearing clothing that has a story to tell.

What are your thoughts on the Green Fashion Movement?

Orajel, #Orajel, #Smilestones, Smilestones, oral health, Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Orajel Kids.

When I was 13, I noticed the space between my teeth getting tight and it freaked me out. I begged my parents for braces. I was willing to do whatever it took to get them fixed. I’d endure all the “Trap Jaws” and “Tin grins” my little brother could throw my way, just to have a beautiful smile. Ever since then, I have been obsessed with my teeth; protecting them and keeping them healthy. I guess it’s hard not to be when you spend nearly 2 years of your life fixating on maintaining your oral health. This led to a lifetime habit of meticulous oral hygiene.

I have daughters of my own now who are 7 and 9-years-old. One is losing teeth while the other is wearing braces. They are at vastly different stages of life on their oral health journey.

Orajel, #Orajel, #Smilestones, Smilestones, oral health, Sponsored, first teeth

Both girls have been going to see the dentist since they were 2 and always get their regular 6-month check-ups. They have been using #Orajel products since before they had teeth. It started with Orajel teething gel and then baby Orajel tooth and gum cleanser with no fluoride. Next, as teeth came in, we started using Orajel Flouride-Free Training Toothpaste and now, with most of their permanent teeth in their mouth, the girls are using Orajel Bubble Guppies Anitcavity Fluoride Toothpaste. The most ironic thing about it all, the 9-year-old with the braces uses Orajel teething gel to alleviate some of the pain from newly tightened braces. We’ve come full oral health circle.

Orajel, #Orajel, #Smilestones, Smilestones, oral health, Sponsored, braces, orthodontureThe girls like using Orajel products because they are familiar to them, like an old friend.

I like that they are using products that I have come to trust over the years; products that I have used since I was child.

We are serious about teaching them the importance of taking care of their teeth. I stress how important flossing and brushing regularly are because once you lose those baby teeth you only get one more set so you have to protect your smiles.

Orajel wants to celebrate your child’s smiling milestones – or “Smilestones.” Share your favorite Smilestones  in the Smilestones Photo Contest. Entry period between May 8-June 10 at noon PST on https://on.fb.me/1mFhyj2 . Enter your photos from baby’s first tooth, to child’s first day of school and every lost tooth and set of braces that follow and you can be entered to win a grand prize trip for a family of four to Beaches Resorts. Now, that’s a reason to smile!

Earth Footwear, swimsuit season, #EarthFootwear, fashion, crying

The following post is sponsored by Mamavation on behalf of Earth Footwear. #EarthFootwear

It is almost May, so you know what that means? Cute Sandal and cry inducing bathing suit season are in full swing, right now! Honestly, I have been crying in dressing rooms since about mid-February. So to balance out the sheer horror of bathing suit shopping, I reward myself every year with leisurely strolls through the shoe stores perusing sandals. I linger through the aisles, gingerly slipping a variety of sandals on and off ; one by one; loving each pair more than the last. Shoe shopping for me is the complete opposite of bathing suit shopping. It always has been. Swimsuit shopping makes me sob like I lost my best friend ( my abs) and shoes just make me happy.

Feeling down, no problem, head to your nearest shoe store and spend an hour or two trying on shoes. I’m not kidding a cute pair of shoes makes the world feel more beautiful. In my twenties, I even took a job managing a shoe store, just for the discount. Shhh, don’t tell me husband. At one point, I had 300 pairs of shoes. Who was I? Imelda Marcos? It was sort of like letting a crackhead be a drug dealer. I absorbed a great deal of my own product. In the end, I had to quit but my love for shoes remains; as does my hatred for bathing suits.

I am an equal opportunity shoe lover. I love everything from flip-flops to Louboutins. If I can put it on my foot and wear it, I can find an outfit and occasion to make it work. Well, with the exception of those new trendy Minotaur hoof heels. I’d prefer to pass on those.  I was a vegetarian for 10 years and the idea of sticking an animal’s “actual” hoof on my foot for fashion, is just too distasteful to imagine. The point is shoes have never made me cry, unless you count that one pair of 5-inch-heels I wore all over downtown Chicago fro my birthday. Bad idea.

The point is shoes soothe my soul, like chocolate and good wine or a really good bag. So when I was asked to review a pair of Earth Footwear’s Camarra sandals, I have to admit, I was pretty excited to be trying new shoes. You see, Earth Footwear is known for being comfortable. Which, let’s face it, if you are going to be on spring break walking around Disney World all day is a definite plus.

Camarra, Earth Footwear, Summer, Sandals, Review

The comfort is all in the contoured arch-support that works to keep you comfortable all day long. Have you ever tried walking long distances in those super flat Grecian style sandals? I have. They are gorgeous and I own a couple pair, but they are terrible for long walks. By the time you finish your walk, it feels like someone to a baseball bat to the bottoms of your feet but don’t hurt at all if you only wear them for shorts amounts of time. Keep the flat sandals for day trips to the mall.

The Camarras, however, are very comfortable and stylish. Contrasting textures and pops of shimmer combine with gracefully arching lines to create a strappy sandal that feels great all day. So often it feels like you have to sacrifice one for the other. I mean. Come one, you don’ see ant collaborations between Dr. Scholl’s and Louboutin, do you? I really like my Camarras because they are made of quality leather so they look nice and contemporary and the wedge is only an inch and a half, so you can wear it with shorts and jeans or with a cute dress at nighttime.  I got the platinum because I feel it’s versatile with my wardrobe but the Camarra also comes in Slate, if you prefer a darker sandal. I love these sandals because they are contemporary sandals made for real women who live in the real world. When’s a pair of 5-inch heels ever done that for you? I need cute and comfortable and I don’t want to sacrifice one for the other. Do you? We shouldn’t have to, right?

The Spring and Summer 2014 Earth collection starts at just $85 and most of the collection is under $100 and each show features a cushioned footbed for all day comfort with a padded heal area to displace shock, a reinforced arch support to stabilize the foot, and multi-density latex cushioning layer for extra support. Which any mom who has ever spent any amount of time in line at Disney World waiting in line to see a princess can tell you that comfort is everything.

If you’d like to be automatically entered into a monthly shoe giveaway, you can sign up for the Earth eNewsletter here.

Frozen, Elsa, Frozen Party, frozen recipes, #disneyside, Disney, Olaf, Anna

Bella’s Frozen party is fast approaching so I have been searching the internet (especially Pinterest) high and low for how to pull off a Frozen birthday party that will have my daughter smiling ear-to-ear.  Earlier this week, I shared with you how to make an Elsa costume which turned out fantastic. Today, I am sharing the great Frozen recipes that I found.

They can all be found on my Pinterest board #Disneyside Frozen Party Ideas.

disney-frozen-party-blue-punch-with-snowballs, Frozen, Elsa, Frozen Party, frozen recipes, #disneyside, Disney, Olaf, Anna

Our first order of business for our Frozen party was the perfect punch. Blue Party Punch with Snowballs by Comfy in the Kitchen fit the bill. This is a super easy punch that looks gorgeous and tastes even better! Aside from the sweet, fizzy bubbles from the carbonation the ice cream snowballs will be sure to delight the little ones.

disney-frozen-party-hot-chocolate-Frozen, Elsa, Frozen Party, frozen recipes, #disneyside, Disney, Olaf, Anna

It wouldn’t be a Frozen party without a Hot Chocolate bar by Joyful Details – how perfect are these for a Frozen-themed party?  I love the idea of hot chocolate on a cold day, topped with a dollop of whipped cream and Pirouettes.  This is such a simple delight that all children ( young and old) will love to sip on.

Frozen party, Frozen, Elsa, Olaf, Anna, #DisneySide Disney, recipes

OK, Gabs is dressing as Olaf for our Frozen party so this Snowman Snack Mix by Spoonful is the perfect build a snowman snack!  Snowman parts tossed together in a bowl makes for an adorable display and I am sure that you will find the little people assembling their own tiny army of Olafs and it tastes pretty good too!

The movie FROZEN mentions three foods specifically: chocolate, carrots and sandwiches. So, of course, they must all make an appearance.

Frozen, Elsa, Frozen Party, frozen recipes, #disneyside, Disney, Olaf, Anna, chocolate fountain

So we are having mini sandwiches, a white chocolate fountain to dip strawberries in  ( Remember, Anna’s Frozen Heart) and having a veggie tray with carrots as a tribute to Olaf.

What would you add? What is your favorite Frozen party recipe?

bush, pubic hair, feminism, femininity

Ladies, have you heard? The BUSH is back! I don’t mean of the George W. or George Herbert or any other kind of political bush. I am talking about full-on 1970’s au natural pubic region BUSH! I write that in all caps because I was born in 1972, hit puberty in the 80’s and I don’t think I have ever grown in more than a landing strip. Bush is a big deal. It’s a game changer. Going back to bush is like a giant “Eff You!” to sexist mainstream society. It’s bra burning for 2014.

If you want proof that pubic hair is back in vogue, just watch last night’s episode of Girls in which Gaby Hoffman was rocking a way over grown, gratuitous bush. I was a little shocked to see a bush on the television because you just don’t see that. Then there was the American Apparel mannequins and recent interviews in which Cameron Diaz proclaimed that she is going back to her au natural state as did Gwyneth Paltrow. Looks like the over 40 set has decided to forgo the Brazilian and just see what happens.

bush, pubic hair, American apparel, feminism, femininity

Oh.MY.GOD.Becky, Look at that BUSH!

That is exactly what would have been heard round the locker rooms in the 80’s had anyone thought to go rogue and grow a full on 1970’s porn bush. I would have been laughed out of high school. It was bad enough my dad wouldn’t let me shave my legs and I had to rock tube socks to hide that fact. There was no way I was growing out a pubic area afro. I didn’t care how bad it itched when it grew back in or hurt when you got an ingrown hair, I didn’t even mind the lip slip of 1989. That was a close one, I almost lost a labia. But I survived with no bush and became stronger because of it.

Look if you were born in the 80’s, I am pretty sure that you have never seen a true full on bush unless you walked in on your grandma in the shower. Well, maybe if you are Amish, I am assuming that since you aren’t allowed to use zippers, razors are forbodden, as well. In which case, you know the bush and the tube socks, all to well.

I’ve been landscaping my nether regions since they began to grow in.I had no choice. It was what was expected. My pubic region has looked prepubescent for so many years that I’m not even sure if I could grow a full on bush. I mean, it kind of explains why my boobs took so long to grow in. If they were waiting for the pubic hair to come in fully as a sign to grow, I can see where the confusion came in.I suppose there are some benefits to a bush if you are over 50, to hide the wrinkles but then you would have gray hairs, right? That’s got to age you.

To be honest, with this new fad of full bush coming back, I am a little afraid that I will be completely out of style because it’s been so long since I have had any pubic hair, I may be in for quite the surprise like those men who purposely shave themselves bald in their 20’s as a fashion statement only to find in their 30’s that their hair will not grow back in and they are, in fact, now unintentionally bald. I’m afraid I may have landscaped myself right out of style in 2014.

Oh well, let’s be honest. I am not really too keen on the whole idea of bush anyways. I personally don’t relish the thought of looking like I have a midget with an afro in a headlock between my legs and not to be TMI,(though I just wrote an entire post on pubic hair) but some of us are just hairier than others. The thought of catching pubic hair on the sticky side of a panty liner sounds excruciating. I’m not even sure that I have panties equipped to handle a full bush. That sounds like a job for a younger girl with bigger panties and don’t even think about going commando with a bush because I am pretty sure that getting that thing caught in a zipper would be like pulling nose hairs.

But all joking aside, a woman’s beauty should never be wrapped up in what is between her legs and certainly not in its packaging. Hair grows on our bodies for a reason ( well, everything except for the upper lip hair I’m sure that’s just a cruel joke) and why would we want our women’s bodies to look like little girls? Hair is a personal thing, some of us like it long and some of us like it short and some like none at all. I say, do whatever makes YOU feel beautiful and whether that means being bald or wearing a thick, full afro between your legs, go on with your bad self!

So if you want to be in vogue in 2014, burn your bras, back away from the wax and razors and don your natural bush because baby, the bush is back.

What do you think of the new fashion of women growing in their body hair? Will you love the bush or leave it?

This holiday cleaning tips post is brought to you by Swiffer® as part of a Type-A Parent Community Sponsored Post.

Next Wednesday is Christmas; company will be arriving on Monday which means I need to get my house “company” worthy. That means putting away the clean laundry, clearing the counter of any dishes and dusting and cleaning the wood floors and then trying to keep it that way with company, kids, a dog and a Christmas tree that’s losing its needles like its job.

I love when people come to visit but I hate the deep clean that I need to give my house before everyone shows up and worse, I hate the stress that it creates. It’s like a buzz kill for my holiday spirit. So this year, I am not going to worry about the deep clean. I am going to clean my house and if it looks lived in and loved on during the holidays, even better. Deep breaths.

If you are a clean freak, Type-A, obsessive/compulsive cleaner like I am here are a few tips and tricks to keep your house looking company worthy all year.

  1. To pick up small pieces of broken glass, press pieces of bread onto the affected area.
  2. To get blood out of fabrics, use hydrogen peroxide. Apply it directly to the stain and then launder in the washing machine.
  3. To clean the bottom of the iron, sprinkle salt on the ironing board and iron back and forth.
  4. To clean a microwave oven, add four tablespoons of lemon juice to one cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl. Boil for five minutes in the microwave, allowing the steam to condense on the inside walls of the oven. Then wipe them with a soft cloth
  5. To remove fingerprints from stainless-steel appliances, place a small amount of baby oil on a napkin and wipe the affected areas. The fingerprints will just wipe away.
  6. To remove marker pen off hard surfaces, spray on hair spray and then wipe it off.
  7. To remove cat and dog hair from clothes and furniture, rub them with damp rubber gloves.
  8. To restore toilet bowls back to their shiny best, clean with old, flat Coke or Pepsi. To dissolve limescale, leave the soda overnight to soak.

For my floors, the dreaded floors, this year I am using the new Swiffer Bissell steamboost. Honestly, I think it does just as good of a job as my Shark steamer but costs about half the price. I have tried everything on my floors to rid them of streaks and spots. I’ve even gotten on my hands and knees and scrubbed like Cinderella but still, a film remained. The Swiffer Bissell steamboost seemed to get rid of some of the built up film. I am interested to see what it looks like after a couple more uses. I can say that it definitely got up all of the salt residue left behind by my children’s snow boots.

The Swiffer BISSELL® SteamBoost™ is a steam mop that deeply penetrates dirt and helps remove messes mops can leave behind. Fill it with water, attach a Steam Pad and plug it in. No other cleaning solutions are needed.

The special Steam Pads have a steam-activated, dirt-dissolving cleaning solution that pulls dirt from surfaces and locks it away. SteamBoost™ is light, easy to use and safe on tile, finished wood and laminate floors. Do not use on waxed or unfinished wood floors.

What’s your best tip or trick for cleaning wood or wood laminate floors?
