Diva Cup test ~Have you ever…(?)

  • co-opted toilet paper from a public washroom as a temporary measure *(GUILTY.How I hate the clump of TP waddle of shame)

  • planned a vacation around your period *(Many Times.)

  • avoided white pants for that one ‘special’ week of the month. I call it shark week for a reason, it’s dangerous.*(When I was a teenager, white was my enemy for this very reason)

  • done a supplies hand-off with a girlfriend while the dates weren’t looking *(always and it’s never as covert as we plan it to be.Nothing like dropping a tampon to the floor in front of a blind date)

  • cautiously tucked the telltale string into your bikini *(why must it always slip back out.I’m not a party popper, nor do I want to “celebrate’ my period)

  • accidentally pulled a mystery object from your purse in front of a curious male audience *(Yes and it’s always a stranger not someone you know.Instead of your husband, it’s someone like your husband’s boss or a potential client. “just let me get a pen..Oops, never mind my tampon that just fell on your hand))

  • scuttled to the washroom to survey the leak damage after a sudden ‘surge’ *(I hate knowing I’ve leaked and can’t do anything about it but run for the restroom and pray for mercy from the menstruation Gods)

  • clogged your toilet with “flushable” feminine products *(let’s not bring up the septic system that my in laws love to remind that I ruined with my tampons)

  • left a party with a jacket tied around your waist * ( or high school, the club, a wedding reception,PTA meeting, mass)

  • had a tampon somehow turn itself completely around inside and lose the string *(My biggest fear realized)

The DivaCup to the rescue!!!

The Diva Cup~Naturally Divalicious

The DivaCup is a non-absorbent menstrual cup that simply collects menstrual flow. *( Ok, take a moment and get past the ICK factor. I know it sounds kind of gross at first thought. But it is amazing and Green (BONUS)). It is inserted into the vagina and sits at the lower base of the vaginal canal. It is worn internally, yet because it is soft and smooth, it cannot be felt nor will it leak when inserted properly.*(You may however need to trim the stem for comfort which is a very simple fix)

The DivaCup is the most clean and convenient method of feminine hygiene protection. No need to touch the flow. It is worn low in the vagina, not near the cervix, so it is easy to remove. No mess! * ( No more evidence left on your fingers from lodged strings) Just remove, clean with Diva wash, re-insert and leave in for 12 hours. So easy.

The DivaCup ends hassles with unreliable disposables in endless absorbencies, shapes and styles. It is perfect for all activities – giving women true freedom without the worry, guessing and unreliability that disposable feminine hygiene products pose. *( absolutely great for running, dancing, high impact workouts like Turbo Fire and even Zumba)

The DivaCup can be worn for up to 12 hours before emptying, washing and reinserting for use for another 12 hours. It can be used for light or moderate flows and is emptied more often to accommodate heavy flows. Perfect for overnight use. *(I loved not having to worry about getting up in the middle of the night to check for accidents on the sheets or to change my pajamas.)

The DivaCup’s expert, proprietary, patent-pending features make it comfortable and assures ease of use and reliability. Perfect for traveling, running, biking, hiking, dancing, camping, swimming, diving, scuba, yoga, extreme sports and more…

  • Latex-free, BPA-free, plastic-free
  • No dyes, colors or additives
  • Comfortable, reliable
  • Clean, convenient, easy-to-use
  • Worn for up to 12 hours at a time

The Diva Cup is a modern miracle, as far as I am concerned. I have been plagued with a heavy, unpredictable period since I hit puberty way back in the 80’s. It’s been no picnic and has left me with intense cramps and praying for menopause. No more! The Diva Cup has eliminated the mess, is able to be worn on those days that I “might” be starting and relieved the cramps.Relieved the Cramps!!

I highly suggest that if you have not tried the Diva Cup you do! It may take a couple of cycles to  get used to it but once you do, you will be thanking me for turning you on to the Diva Cup. Through the generosity of Diva Cup, I am giving away a Diva Cup to one lucky reader. All you need to do is become an email subscriber and leave me a comment telling me your best green tip. The random winner will be selected on Friday June 17 at 9 pm EST.

The DivaCup really is an ingenious product.  It’s a wonderful alternative to disposable pads and tampons and offers unsurpassed protection and worry-free ease in an innovative design.  So, before you just say NO give it a try – it really is a “menstrual solution”!

Where to buy? Check out the The DivaCup website for more information.

Good god! Sorry but, seriously? This product is revolting. Green or no green, just eww.

Ashley 2011/06/14 - 9:07 am

What would be gross is one of your own children playing on a beach and a used tampon of yours washing up into the sand castle they are working on. Keep on using those bleach with the same chemicals as stone washed jeans pieces of cotton and I assure you eventually if it doesn’t happen to your kids, it will happen to your grand kids!

monique 2011/06/14 - 11:19 am

I thought the exact same thing. Who in their right mind would try this?
Not a single person I know.
Then after reading all the reviews I decided to try it. I gave it the 3 recommended learning curve months. And havne’t gone back. I will never go back. Seriously.

Kris 2011/06/13 - 7:16 pm

I have been wanting to try this for a while now. I get these horrid headaches whenever I wear a tampon lately, and I can’t bring myself to wear pads again. Ever. Because who wants to sit in that?
Thank you for the review!!

Laura 2011/06/14 - 1:53 am

My best green tip is to eliminate paper towels. I bought a few bulk packages of wash clothes that we keep in a kitchen drawer. I also bought a bulk package of cloth napkins. I keep them all in a little white plastic trash can in the laundry room and wash them when it fill up. So easy and far less wasteful than the three rolls of paper towels we used each week.

Angela Heckman 2011/06/14 - 8:54 am

I owned a few cups in the past, I would love to own this one. How do I enter the contest?

Rebecca M. 2011/06/14 - 9:02 am

I would love to try this! I don’t think this has any more of an ick factor than tampons. I love that I wouldn’t be throwing away money every month, seems like it would pay for itself in no time!!

Rebecca M. 2011/06/14 - 2:37 pm

I subscribed. My green tip is use cloth diapers they are so economical and pay for themselves in no time and you can use them for future children, plus they are so cute!!!

Pam 2011/06/14 - 9:04 am

I have been using the Diva Cup for about 5 years now and I LOVE IT! The idea was really hard to get used to at first but now it’s like second nature for me. I will NEVER go back to multiple tampons plus pads – depending on the day. Diva Cup works for me everyday!

Pam 2011/06/14 - 9:06 am

…to clarify, I do not wear it “everyday”, I just meant everyday of my flow 🙂

Erica Beth Bradley 2011/06/14 - 9:24 am

My best green tip is that if you have kids, use cloth (diapers, wipes, pads, unpaper towels, etc) when posible. Disposable diapers alone take approximately 500 years to decompose. Imagine what that does to our environment expecially with all the added chemicals in them….

kim mcintosh 2011/06/14 - 9:57 am

New subscriber!
My green tip (s)… cloth diapers! So easy and much better for baby and the environment. Walk or bike instead of driving. Baking Soda and Vinegar are all you need for cleaning supplies. Buy food from local farms or markets when you can.

Karla 2011/06/14 - 10:12 am

I use this and it’s AWESOME! I read so many great reviews I had to try it. I’d love a spare- especially for camping!!! My tip is to buy good quality microfiber towels to wipe down everything. It saves me a ton on paper towels! It’s especially great for those with heavier flows- no more changing a tampon every 30 minutes or more! I can actually last 3-4 hours! It’s AWESOME. Sorry, this won’t let me edit…so it flows properly.

monique 2011/06/14 - 11:01 am

O-M-f’ing-G! LOVED IT!

I LOVE my Diva Cup.

Annika 2011/06/14 - 11:37 am

Using old coffee grounds in your garden instead of throwing them out is something my husband and I do. Seems to be doing good too!
I am searching for the best menstrual cup currently. I’ve tried and few and have had decent results but i’d love to try a divacup 😀

MommaKiss 2011/06/14 - 12:13 pm

I’ve heard about this ages ago – back in the days of Baby Center Message Boards…just never had the desire to try it. That said, if I win, I’d be honored to give a review 🙂

Poppy 2011/06/14 - 12:13 pm

I’d like to say my green tip would be to start a worm compost bin, but that project lasted like a week for me because it totally grossed me out. The Diva Cup sounds great for running. I’ve used the disposable Instead cups for years so a reusable one would be nice.

Bonnie 2011/06/14 - 12:27 pm

My green tip is to keep lights turned off, let natural sunlight in by opening windows.

Nurit 2011/06/14 - 1:38 pm

Subscribed too. I gave up shampoo and all other hair care products a year ago.. just wash it daily with diluted vinegar. My curls have never been that healthy and beautiful!

Jessica Gottlieb 2011/06/14 - 1:59 pm

I don’t want to win one, because I have two. One that I use and the other one that I filled with bourbon in order to demonstrate it’s usefulness.

I’m always happy to see another menstrual cup convert.

Michelle (Addicted2Shius) 2011/06/14 - 11:06 pm

It totally sounds sooooo nasty but I’m gonna trust you on this one!

Tracy 2011/06/15 - 12:44 am

I would love to try these. Tampons ugh! Hate them they make cramping worse.

lace 2011/06/15 - 1:07 am

Ride your bike whenever possible. You get great exercise and cut down on the amount of gas you use and exhaust you create.

Genia 2011/06/15 - 6:37 am

I have always been wanting to try a diva cup, hope I get the chance!
My green tip is to keep a squeeze bottle with warm water near the toilet to clean the perineal area (like what hospitals give you to use after vaginal childbirth) to reduce the amount of toilet paper that has to be used when there is a big mess like bowel movements or menstrual periods. It also makes you feel cleaner than just using toilet paper.

Emily 2011/06/15 - 11:53 am

The first time I heard of them, I also thought “uhhh… so not for me” but I have become a convert! It is so easy, so thought-free, so clean and so GREEN!

I’d love to win one, so my green tip is: Be conscientious about turning off lights, water and AC when you’re not using them. It may seem like a little but it adds up to a lot!

Peach @ idratherbebarefoot.com 2011/06/15 - 12:44 pm

Thanks for offering this contest!

I am a new email subscriber… and my green tip would be to not be overwhelmed when you think about transitioning to a greener lifestyle. Everything you do helps – no matter how small. Just as with everything else in life, it takes time to adjust to living a healthier and more earth friendly lifestyle {which is often a more frugal lifestyle as well} but the end results {healthier family, happier earth} are really worth making the extra effort.

mrg2004 2011/06/15 - 1:03 pm

I’m a subscriber! thank you for the give-away!
best green tip… walk! to school, to work, to the post – walk everywhere! healthy for you and the planet!

Rachel 2011/06/15 - 5:11 pm

There are many green tips that can help save money and most importantly the environment. The most common ones are turning off water and the lights when you are not using them, but one tip that isn’t thought of very often is using reusable products such as cloth diapers, menstrual products, and wash clothes. I recently wanted to help the environment in several ways and now I can do even more by using a reusable menstrual cup.

Cheyenne 2011/06/15 - 11:14 pm

I have been wanting to try one of these so bad but am scared… I shouldn’t be but I am. After depending on pads and/or tampons for my whole life as a woman; I am nervous about stepping out of my boundaries.

But I want to better myself and the world.

Anne 2011/06/15 - 11:15 pm

At my house we reuse the tougher plastic cups you get from restaurants. We accumulated a lot and put them through the dishwasher to clean. When you want water just take one out of the cupboard and fill it up!

Carrie 2011/06/16 - 3:11 pm

I just subscribed, and my green tip is to switch to a push mower or even an electric lawn mower!

Amy W. 2011/06/16 - 5:16 pm

I subscribed and would LOVE to win a Diva cup!

Jennifer 2011/06/16 - 5:57 pm

My green tip is to get a Vileda Promit Flat Floor Mop. You can machine launder the floor cloth and fill the re-fillable bottle with enviromentaly friendly vinegar and water cleaning solution 🙂

Jennifer 2011/06/16 - 9:37 pm

I forgot to mention I subscribe to the blog via email

Jennifer 2011/06/17 - 12:26 am

I’m a subscriber. My best green tip is to think about the impact of anything you bring into your house — what kinds of resources it took to make and transport, and what impact it will have when you dispose of it. It makes me a lot more selective about how and what I consume!

Aurora Cyganik-Barker 2011/06/17 - 9:47 am

It took a few days but once I got the hang of it, I won’t ever go back to tampons!

Aurora 2011/06/17 - 10:14 am

The Diva Cup works wonders for those of us that have very heavy flow days. As opposed to changing tampons every 20 minutes, the Diva Cup gives you a few hours of safety.

Aurora 2011/06/17 - 10:17 am

Oops, forgot the green tip! A bottle is eucalyptus essential oil in the bathroom can save some embarrassment, just add a few drops to your toilet bowl before doing anything odorous! If you are adventuresome you can mix other oils with the eucalyptus such as peppermint for an even nicer fragrance that doesn’t come from a chemical based spray.

Just Jenn 2011/06/17 - 11:10 am

I sub!! My green tip is use your old shirts and sweaters to make scarves and fringe necklaces!

Rachel G 2011/06/17 - 6:40 pm

I subscribed. I have so many green tips. We use cloth diapers, I use mama cloth (but would love to try this), we also recycle household items. We just turned 2 old dressers into bookshelves. 🙂

cori 2011/06/17 - 6:56 pm

just subscribed! one of my green tips is using small rags/cloths as TP for pee! i have *substantially* reduced our toilet paper consumption in our home by doing this. i have a stainless steel container by my toilet and toss them in then wash and repeat! i have pinking shears and used them to cut up small squares of an old pair of flannel pj pants.

Jodi 2011/06/17 - 7:47 pm

We bring reusable bags to the grocery store. I’m working on getting over the ick factor of using the Diva Cup. I have at least 5 friends that use it and they swear by it. Thank you for this opportunity!

Jodi 2011/06/17 - 7:49 pm

I forgot to mention that I subscribed. Thank you.

Alana K 2011/06/18 - 12:13 am

Ive subscribed and would love to win an alternative to pads and tampons that is less hassle and better for both myself and the environment

ToCo 2011/06/18 - 12:30 pm
