  • 1st Annual Blog Bash

    Blog Bash

First, to introduce myself, I am known as Truthful Mommy ( because I am painfully honest) but I also answer to Mommy(kids), Babe(husband), Honey(Mom), Sugar(Grandma), Sexy, (Eric from True Blood…in my dreams) and occasionally Debi. I am a 37 year old Mommy to two amazing little girls, Bella and Gabi, who are simultaneously my heaven and occasional sources of hell on earth. I am married to my college sweetheart and we just celebrated our 11th anniversary.
Random facts, I am equally addicted to  my children, my husband, my Iphone, my computer, and my camera…not necessarily in that order! If I could do anything in the world, I’d have the exact same life but my husband would not  have to live in another state for work (maybe he could co stay home with me:), money would not be an ever present thought, and I could write for a living while traveling the world with my husband and girls; experiencing the languages, cultures, religions, and beauty of the world.
I have finally realized what I want to do with my life, or rather just decided to have the guts to pursue it. It only took 37 years! I always knew that I wanted to be a Mommy ( I come from a family of 6 brothers and sisters) but the rest I’ve thought I knew but its changed over the years. I think, my entire life has brought me to this point and prepped me to embark on this journey to pursue my dreams with passion, enthusiasm and a no failure attitude and  to exhaust all avenues of potential afforded to me. It’s go big or go home! I’m not  a quitter, so I’m making my declaration of reaching for the stars!

    1.) Why do you blog?

I blog because I am a writer and my dream is to either have a column, a book, or both and in the end.. My dream is to follow in the footsteps of Dooce, Motherhood Uncensored, Finslippy,  and the Pioneer Woman!

2.) What do you blog about?
I blog about what I know; my life, Motherhood, as I know it, being a wife and a woman. I try to do it all with honesty and openness because there is nothing I hate more than women making other women feel shitty about not being perfect. If I can make 1 woman feel like she is not alone in the trenches of Motherhood, and if I can do that through letting her laugh at me or see my flaws, I feel like I have exceeded my hopes!
3.) What do you find to be the biggest reward you get from blogging?
The biggest reward I have gotten from blogging is a surprising one. As I said, I started this blog as a means to an end ; a way to chronicle my girls as they grow up and the emotions, feelings, and enormity of all that Motherhood and this time of my life encompasses but also as a way to hone my skill in writing. In addition to these things, the reward I have actually gotten that means the most is the community of readers that I have had the pleasure of meeting. I thought I’d be helping other women through their difficult days but, through my honesty in my posts, I have gained a community of support and friendship that helps me get through the difficult days! Thanks Ladies ( and a couple brave gentlemen)!
4.) How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog in May of 2009 at the urging of a friend of mine who is  a professional writer. She told me that it would be a great way to build my writing portfolio and fine tune my skills. Then life happened, we moved, and I didn’t get back to it full time until we moved again in February of 2010. So I guess I have been blogging full time for about 6 months but had my site up and running for 6 months previous to that.
5.) Let’s hear the story behind your blog title! 🙂
The Story behind my blog title “The TRUTH about Motherhood” is that I want to give it to women straight. I am a no holds  barred, straight shooting Mommy who doesn’t sugar coat the bad days, but I also don’t hold back on the good ones. I read every book I could get my hands on before I actually had my first baby, but in the end nothing prepared me for the reality of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and Motherhood in all of its glory.  I want to change that. I want women  to have a place where they can come and read my truth ( which is likely very similar to theirs) not the truth according to Bree Van de Kamp!

    Happy Mothering!

    1. Can you burp the ABC’s?
Yeah, no way! That is pretty gross, unless you are under the age of 5.

    2. So lets just say you have a 9+ hour drive ahead of you would you consider wearing Depends so you didn’t have to stop multiple times?

NO, I would never intentionally urinate or defecate on myself and sit in it ..under no circumstances. Well, maybe if I was sitting in a closet while Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers was roaming the room looking for me, but other than that..NO WAY!

    3. Would you rather…run your tongue down five feet of a NYC street or press your tongue into a strangers nostril?
OK, well these are both equally nauseating but honestly…you’d be more likely if catching something licking someone’s nostril of course you’d probably need a tetanus after running your tongue down 5 feet on NYC street. OF course  if you licked where someone freshly spat or a bum urinated not wearing his Depends, yeah, I say shoot me now! I’m not doing either! TOO NASTY!!!! I’d rather be shot than ingest the cooties!

    4. If you had an envelope that contained the date you would die would you open it?
Yes, and then I would do every single thing I ever wanted to do knowing I had a predetermined expiration date that I was actually privy too. I could use the kick start to my get up and go. It’s taken me 37 years to finally realize what I want out of my life, and I think knowing an end date would put it into more perspective. Its not the end, its just the end of one journey and the beginning of another.

    5. Which one song describes your sex life best?
Between the Sheets, The Isley Brothers

  • JumpStart Giveaway; FREE 3 Month Membership

I was recently given an opportunity by Knowledge Adventure, creators of the award-winning JumpStart and Math Blaster series of educational children’s games, to enjoy a 1 year membership to JumpStart online for free. I was very excited because I am all about anything that makes my girls love learning, makes them healthy or cultured. JumpStart certainly fits the bill when it comes to helping my girls love learning.

For more than 15 years, Knowledge Adventure has set the standard in kids’ software by creating the finest educational products for use in the home and the classroom.I was actually familiar with and had worked with the JumpStart series in the past while working in the education field. So, I was thrilled to be asked to try out their new online membership. There is also a free demo available if you’d like to try it out for yourself!

In addition to the CD games (which is what I had worked with in the past), JumpStart has launched a browser-based virtual world at www.JumpStart.com, for kids 3-10 years old. Kids can create avatars called Jumpeez for themselves and explore magical worlds, discovering and unlocking games, videos and storybooks that teach everything from math to reading. My girls loved the Jumpeez because they could personalize their names, and everything about them from their skin color, eye shape, to their outfit, eye color, hair color, etc. My girls loved how they could make their Jumpeez a reflection of them self.

Over the next year, JumpStart. will continue to add more features, portals and learning games to this site. The membership also allows access to thousands of additional lessons , available under downloadables. I think that is awesome! My only problem is finding enough time to utilize all of these wonderful tools. Though, it is quite fantastic to know that they are right here at the touch of my hand (or that of my girls) rather than one more thing that I have to find storage space for in my already full house of children’s toys, books, etc.I encourage you to check it out at www.JumpStart.com.

The first area is called StoryLand, aimed at 3-5 year olds. This is the area that my children explored being that they are 3 and 5. When exploring the site, I would highly recommend listening to directions before just jumping in and taking off. My girls and I found that when we did that, we were left not knowing what direction to go or how the different areas worked. It’s pretty easy to figure out, with some patience, but if you have little ones, like I do, I would recommend saving yourself the trouble and listening to the directions in the beginning.Story land has wonderful learning games that my girls really thought were great. To name a few areas of education/entertainment was Sound Box, which is a phonics game to help recognize the letter and its sound, there are also numbers recognition, matching. The great thing about the JumpStart games were that my girls were having so much fun ‘playing’ they just wanted to keep in learning. In my book, that is always a plus.

Older children can also explore AdventureLand and MarineLand, designed for kids in kindergarten to second grade. In addition, children in 3rd to 5th grade may be interested in checking out FutureLand, geared towards older children. JumpStart also just launched our most popular area, the Enchanted Sanctuary, where kids can hatch and raise their own dragons! This is a little too advanced for my girls but we will get there.

JumpStart also has a parent blog, which is great to go to and find out what new features JumpStart has available on the site so that we can utilize JumpStart to its full potential. You know me, I am certainly a lover of a good blog. Who isn’t,  right?

Knowledge Adventure has also been generous enough to provide one of my lucky readers with a 3 month membership for your lovely child to enjoy the JumpStart phenomenon. Awesome, right? Monday Minute

Who of all your blog friends would you like to meet and/or who have you met?
I think I would like to meet Ian, Jana, Nikki, Sofia, the Purseblogger, Naomi, Peryl, Heather,Kristen, and several others. I would love to meet a lot of my blog friends, they all seem like such genuine, fun people..not like the crazies you meet in the real world:) Just kidding, my 3 real friends are awesome!!!! LOL

What kind of vehicle(s) do you drive?

A Dodge Durango and when I am really nice I get to drive the 300.

What kind of cell phone do you have?
    IPHone…Oh, how I love thee!

What’s the most annoying thing you wish bloggers would stop doing?

A really annoying thing…I don’t mind when people curse because damn it to hell I do it regular. But I stumbled onto a blog that was nothing but that. It must have been their niche because it was like they were in some sort of crazy bet to see how many curse words they could fit into one post, to make matters worse, the post was of no real value. So I read all that cursing and I learned absolutely nothing:) Well, I did lose 5 minutes of my life that I’ll never get back..so that’s something. But I could have been equally as entertained if I had spent the 5 minutes with a bunch of drunken sailors:)

What’s the one thing that you still have on your bucket list to do before the year is out?
I want to be published…maybe a column would be nice:) Oh yeah, and I wouldn’t sneeze at losing that 30 pounds either!

  • Quick confession; then back your regularly scheduled program

I just wanted to take a moment to tell all of you lovely readers that I have tons of guests at my house this week so I am a little backed up on my replies to comments. I promise to catch up tomorrow ( my one free day without visitors). It’s 1:19 am and I am bushed! I am not going to post tonight for fear that in my deliriously sleepy state of mind, I may string together some incoherent craziness..you know like something that you might hear come out of the mouth of a politician or something!  I just wanted to let you all know that I have been checking my comments via my phone and I really appreciate all the feedback. I am truly flattered that you have taken the time out of your day to read and comment on my blog. It means more than you can imagine. All time is precious, but when a Mommy uses her very vital and fleeting free time to read and comment…that is something very dear to me.Happy Mothering! See you tomorrow!

    Monday Minute

Has anyone you’ve known personally lived to at least 100?
My paternal Grandfather made it just to 100! He was an amazing man who lived on a farm in Mexico and worked it up until the last 3 years of his life. The only reason he quit, he was thrown from a horse that he was breaking and broke his hip. (Oh yeah, 97 and still breaking horses!I told you he was amazing)

What material possession do you value the most?
Obviously, being that I am my children’s paparazzi it would be photos or rather the external hard drive that my husband has put all of my 90,000 digital photos onto. Also, my Grandmother’s ancient Bulova watch from God knows when back in the day..its just a very dainty white gold watch but it is the only thing I have left of my Grandma Daisy. Oh yeah, and the baby books!

What do you think happens to us after we die?
I think our body goes to the ground or into ashes and our souls  A) go to our version of heaven B) go to our version of hell C) if we still have some kinks to work out..purgatory which I think would have to be reincarnation so that we can try again to do better.Just my personal opinion.

Most embarrassing item in your house?
You’d think I’d say my “toys” but those don’t embarrass me, maybe the crazy rubber and chain getup that my husband thought would be sexxy (?) WTF? It’s pretty ridiculous. NO, the most embarrassing thing would probably be the incredibly ridiculous bathing suit with the cut out sides that my husband convinced me would be a good idea. It’s embarrassing because it looks so tragically hideous on. I think it was mis -sized or made for Kate Moss during her crack days because it sure wasn’t made for a regular sized person. The only thing that would be more embarrassing would be if there were any pictures in existence of me in it.Which there are not and will never be!  od, I broke out in hives just at the thought of that.

If you could rename yourself, what would your name be?
I think I like LOLA or ZOE! I think it sounds sexy. With Debi, I always got the “Debbie does Dallas” or “Little Debi” ( talk about extremes).

  • Getting to Know you Sunday!

    Getting to know YOU
     Questions are:

1.If you had 5000.00 to spend on plastic surgery what would you have done?
Well, I would definitely have the “girls” placed back to their original location because we all know the bigger they are, the harder they fall! I’d probably also have those girls evened out. If I had any money left over, which I probably wouldn’t, maybe some ass implants since I definitely have a case of the Mexican flat bootie disease. If there was more, tummy tuck, botox, and maybe some collagen for the lips. Just saying, off the top of my head:)

    2. Do you watch Soap operas and if so what is your favorite and why?
No soap operas since high school, but I am definitely a follower of TRUE BLOOD. Why you ask? Because, Vampires are apparently hot.. I think its the whole glamouring/ sucking on your neck thing plus they never age and they are apparently SMOKIN HOT!

    3. Favorite clothing brand?

As long as its cute, I don’t care. But I do love Burberry, Louboutin, Diane Von Furstenberg, Anthropologie, and Juicy..to name a few!

    4. An afternoon shopping spree at your favorite store or maid service for a year?
Actually, how about a spa day! That’s what I rally need!

    5. Would you ever vajazzle?
Sure, why not… I try everything at least twice!

    6. Favorite Disney Princess?
I love Tiana from the Princess and the frog because she was very “real” but I also love Belle from Beauty and the Beast because she reminds me of my girls, Izabella and Gabriella!

    7. Last movie that made you bawl your eyes out?
Lots make me cry, most recent… Mamma Mia. I know you are saying… what? Well, when the “Slipping through my fingers” song came on, my then 4 year old looked up and me and said.” Mommy… this is mine and your song!” Now, every time I hear it I cry!

    8. Have you ever broken any bones and if so what?
Yes, arm.. roller dome skating accident when I was 11. Tripped over my little sister who I was skating with. It really hurt but at least I didn’t hurt my little sister!
