  • Things my Daughters Taught Me

I thought this Motherhood gig was all about me shaping, molding, teaching these little, adorable human beings of mine. I knew it would be loads of work, and it is. It is a grueling 24 hour a day job that never stops. I knew (in theory) that was what I was in for but I never expected what I actually got.
As tired as I am most days and holding on for dear life to my last string of sanity, I am always amazed. I never expected to learn anything from my children. Come on, everything they know..I taught them, right? Apparently not. I guess I have to relinquish some of the pride in my nurturing because I have to admit, I’m pretty sure there is a lot of nature in it.
For instance, my 2 year old who is so honest at times that she actually scares me.Many times I have asked her to do something and she will simply say no. Ask her why, she will say because she doesn’t want to.In a world full of excuses, this little girl makes none. She is who she is, and that’s who she is..Deal with it! It used to annoy me that she would just say no she didn’t want to.Let’s be honest, us Mommies, we do a lot of things that we don’t want to. I know for a fact I don’t want to do dishes, fold laundry, cook, run errands, pay bills, keep appointments or obligations but that’s my life. That’s being an adult, right? The more I think of it, why can’t I take a cue from my 2 year old in her infinite wisdom. I mean wouldn’t it be the nicer thing to do then to be insulting and come up with ridiculous excuses why you can’t do things. I appreciate her honesty and her braveness with her integrity is admirable. When my 2 year old does decide to help you, it is whole hearted and it is selfless and it is beautiful. From my 5 year old, I have learned to be fearless. I know where she gets this, I do remember a time when that was me.Since having my girls, I have become much less reckless and more cautious because every day with them is the most important of my life. My Bella will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals. It doesn’t matter if it scares the hell outta her, she will pursue it with a fierceness. There is not much she can’t do. In fact, I don’t think there is anything that she can’t do..if she puts her mind to it. Her spirit is free and her heart is open. She loves with abandon and if you are lucky enough to be one of those who she does love; she will walk through hell to make you happy.
My daughters have reminded me that I can do anything that I set my mind to.They have also reminded me to have integrity and pride. I am embracing love with full abandon. I am learning to be honest with myself, to be fearless and to relish all that life has to offer. They have also taught me that a child’s giggle, their little hand in yours, a snuggle, a kiss goodnight, their true smile..can melt your heart and make you feel more vulnerable then you ever thought possible. They have taught me that the world is a beautiful, miraculous place where everything is possible.
  • Spring Day

Sister Love; What more can I say about this photo?

  • Love is….

My 5 year old just saw this posting and said, “You are not posting those pictures of me!”
    Me: “Yes, I am. Why?”
5 yo,”Because I look like a FREAK! Look at that bandaid!”
At this point I am losing it. ( Really, the “bandaid” that’s what she thinks is making her look like a FREAK:) LOL What about the GIANT Bunny head? I think they both look adorable. That’s why I titled this post LOVE IS…. because they are my absolute LOVE (even when they are driving me bonkers)!

  • Can do attitude

I woke up this morning, all keyed up on sleep. I had an entire hour to myself before the girls woke up and boy was it nice. It gave me a false sense of hope and made me think that today, anything was possible. Oh yeah, you know the kind of day I’m talking about. You wake up, the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and you just know that you can accomplish anything.I was on top of the world, then life happened. First, I had my coffee, then I changed into my workout clothes. Of course, I did. Can do attitude told me that today was the first day of the rest of my life. I just knew I was going to power through the day, feed the kids some healthy meals, play outside, engage them in stimulating mental activities, spring clean, return those movies about to be due, pay bills, workout, return emails, make appointments, maybe even get to work from home, post a blog or two, save the world from domination of some sort. You know me…I’m Wonder woman. Sure am, wondering how the hell I am going to get all of this shit done in 24 hours. Don’t you just love it when amongst all of this craziness that is our life, the unexpected constantly happens. And its never anything good; like unexpectedly winning the lottery. No I am referring more along the lines of your pipes unexpectedly bursting, or maybe an unexpected bill. Or maybe a lovely phone call with the other person , way the frick out in who knows where, taking up your precious time to ask, “What cha doing?” “Hmmmm.,UMMMM, everything..and you are taking up my valuable time, ASSHOLE!” That is what this lovely day, so full of possibilites, turned into. Here I sit, just changed out of my work out clothes, never got to work out. Nope, the 3 hours it took to get my 2 year old to sleep at nap time and the 2 hours that it took to get my 5 year old down at bedtime…just about broke me down today. How is today suppose to be the first day of the rest of my life? I don’t want the rest of my life to be a series of dumb luck and complete madness. So, I will go to bed and start all over tomorrow. Can do attitude says it can be done. Failure is not an option and all that rigamarole. I bet can do attitude doesn’t have kids or a life! Damn you Can do attitude and all your false hope and security.Today was so crazy, I’m thinking of changing the name of this blog to the craziness chronicles!

  • Taking matters into her own hands!

Me: “Gabs, why did you do that?”
Gabs: “Because me wanted you to paint my nails. You said no! Me paint my own nails!”
Well, what can I say. When she’s right, she’s right! This is what happens when a two year old takes matters into her own hands…literally!

  • “Stinky Old Peopleness”

So, I just walked out of the shower and was promptly attacked by the overwhelming scent of too much perfume. Apparently, my 2  year old had taken it upon herself to bathe in my Very Irresistible by Givenchy. (Apparently , not so Very Irresistible in large quantities!) Now, I know we all know this familiar scent when someone has put on too much perfume. Either we have done it ourselves out of poor judgment, or had the misfortune of being stuck in a car or a room with someone who obviously has a broke sniffer. (Its usually those same unfortunate women who don’t have mirrors in their houses!) My point is, we’ve all been there. It’s not a nice smell. Before I could reprimand or say anything to my 2 year old, my 5 year old comes waltzing into my bedroom and ( while holding her nose, no less) she very dramatically says, “EWWWWW, MOMMY! Stinky Old PEOPLENESS!” Obviously, I am a little immature and I broke into laughter immediately. I think my judgment is skewed because I am giddy with excitement to see my husband tonight. This out of town business/ single mother during the week crap is for the birds. Then I wondered, how did she relate the two? And how did she come up with that term? She is, after all, only 5. Apparently my snarky little mini me apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. She has ,of late, become quite the expert on Oldies. A couple days ago, my MIL was coming to visit. We had the two days planned full of activities. I was reviewing with the girls and said, “Well, sweetie, we may have to scale back this list of activities. Mommy is getting old!” To which my sweet 5 year old answers, ” NAH, MOMMY, you are NOT OLD. Grandma…now she’s old!” Oye vey, thank God Granny hadn’t arrived yet. This little light of mine…she always lets it shine. I think I’ve come to realize she has inherited Mommy’s filter, or should I say lack there of.

Warning; Image above is wonderful in moderation! In large doses may cause “Stinky Old Peopleness!”
